Build a life worth living.

We’re so glad you made it here!

Starting therapy is courageous. Congratulations on taking the next step.

At Greater Texas DBT we celebrate the unique qualities of emotionally-sensitive individuals and are passionate about collaborating with clients to “build lives worth living” by capitalizing on strengths while systematically addressing vulnerabilities. Building a life worth living is the capstone goal of DBT as stated by developer Marsha Linehan, Ph.D. We will work together to achieve and maintain this goal through a combination of individual therapy, DBT skills group, diary card reviews, skills coaching between sessions, family coaching and support, DBT team case consultation, referrals for adjunct therapies as needed, and care coordination with outside providers. We offer comprehensive, evidence-based, personalized, and accessible mental healthcare in-person or from the comfort of your home.

In-person and remote options

Our office is conveniently located on the square in historic downtown San Marcos, directly across from the courthouse. Can’t make it into the office? No worries – we’ve got you covered with teletherapy for anyone in Texas.

Been there, done that. You are not alone.

There are so many valid reasons for choosing to start therapy. You might be navigating a significant loss or life transition and you feel ungrounded, vulnerable, or alone. Perhaps you feel misunderstood, like an outsider, unable to find your tribe. Or your relationships are high conflict, in turmoil, or chaotic. You might be feeling sad, angry, scared, lost, confused, overwhelmed, helpless, hopeless, or even empty or numb for seemingly no identifiable reason. Maybe you feel blindsided by unfamiliar emotions, unwanted thoughts, or painful memories. Or perhaps it seems as if it’s always been this way and you don’t know why.

No matter the prompting circumstance, people start therapy when the pain and discomfort of staying the same finally outweighs the pain and discomfort of trying something new. Living with emotional intensity or emotional detachment can interfere with the ability to predictably and consistently meet our needs and desires. But we have some great news — you are not your thoughts or emotions! One more time for the people in the back…

You are not your thoughts. Thoughts are not facts.

You are not your emotions. Emotions are not facts.

Sometimes we overidentify with our internal experiences. You have thoughts and you have emotions, but you are neither. We are here to help you learn how to navigate your thoughts and emotions so that they take their rightful place as one of many important information sources and feedback tools in your life, rather than being the driving dictators of your life. And believe it or not, most clients ultimately enjoy this journey once they get started and discover a newfound sense of peace while identifying values, prioritizing goals, navigating relationships with self/others/world, increasing authentic self-expression, reducing shame and insecurity, and learning when to take themselves seriously and when to laugh at themselves instead. Whether moving two steps forward or two steps back, we learn how to laugh and cry alone and with each other. It would be our privilege and honor to join you on your journey to health and well-being. You are welcome here.

I love this place. I've been going here for about 3 years, and I love my therapist. I was in the DBT group and it was super helpful in getting me to open up and feel validated in the experiences others were having too. The staff is really good about sticking to the proven DBT methods while still including information and care specific to the patient. I've noticed the most improvement with Greater Texas DBT compared to any other places I've been to in my 7 years of trying therapies. With quarantine they've also offered online therapy sessions which has been essential to maintaining my sanity during these crazy times. I have sessions weekly and I really feel my therapist understands me and has given me so much support through the years. She has been super adaptable to my schedule and is always working hard to give me the care I need. It's hard to find a therapist that works for you, but I genuinely feel I've found the right fit here. Shout out to Leigh Ann Bryan, please give this woman a raise.
